ACADEMIC ADVISING

Your academic adviser is your “go to” support system as you navigate your first year of college. Advisers guide and make recommendations to help you to find success. You should plan to connect with your adviser at least once a semester.

How do I find my Adviser?

  • You can identify your assigned academic adviser on your MySAIL account. In the “My Details” box at the top of the page, you will see a blue ADVISER link right under your class standing.

Why do I have a FYAC "hold" and what does it mean?

    • It’s important for students to meet with their adviser before registration opens for next year.  Advisers will share valuable information about your major, provide course recommendations, and discuss your upcoming transition to your next academic advising unit.
    • All first year students have a hold on their account until they meet with their adviser for the winter semester.  The hold is removed during your required appointment.
    • The hold does not allow you to withdraw from a winter course or register for next year until you meet with an adviser.  We want to make sure you are talking with an adviser before making these decisions.

*Please note: our appointment time slots are available for current students only. If you are a summer or fall 2023 admitted students wanting advising assistance, please call our office at 248-370-3227.*

Required Appointment Drop-ins:

To help you complete your required appointment in order to register for classes, we will have drop-in hours that you can access in person or virtually:

  • March 20th until March 31st
  • 10 am to 4 pm daily
  • In person: stop in to 101 North Foundation Hall
  • Virtual: call our office at 248-370-3227 to be set up with a Google Meet link

Due to high demand, we may not be able to accommodate all students every day. We recommend you drop in early for the best opportunity to be seen.
